[Gasp.]

Would you be Satariel-san, perhaps?

It's nice to meet you as well. [A small bow to them and the daemon.]

. . . I had spoken to two of the Celestials, but I wouldn't feel right only hearing half the story. And. . . perhaps it's silly, but your profile said 'friendly'.

Mm. I agree. Perhaps whatever problem we were brought here to help with can best be solved through cooperation?

You are receiving your instructions from elsewhere, just as the others are?

So you are both employed by some individual or group that wanted us brought here, but you were under the impression we would come voluntarily?

. . . You are a Temporal, correct?

I wonder what your goals are. Or the goal that your side is working for. I'm sure you cannot be specific, but do you intend to do something that would harm the worlds we come from?

I see.

[She doesn't seem to be surprised by that answer.]

Then I believe. . . either you or the Celestials. It sounds as though one of you is being lied to.

Yes, of course. I would like nothing more than to help get to the bottom of this.

I understand. It seems I'm meant to speak to them, but that is part of why I wanted to ensure I wasn't speaking with them alone.

. . . Your employer, do you trust them?

[She nods, a little solemn.]

. . . I agree with you that believing the best in people is an admirable quality. Even so, I have had occasion myself to see that. . . even good-hearted people can deceive you. They will tell lies and half-truths to protect someone, or because they truly believe them, or simply because they cannot bear for others to see what they feel they must hide.

So I think that believing the best in someone often means to believe in the goodness of their heart, to believe that when all the truth comes out they will remain worthy of your trust, but to continue to pursue the truth behind their words even so.

I would like that as well, Satariel-san. Whether or not we are pursuing different goals, so long as we both want to learn the truth I am sure we will be able to be friends.

[She nods, seemingly satisfied.]

. . . Thank you, Satariel-san. It was good to speak to you. I already feel that I understand a little better what we must do.
