[ satariel is happy to catch susato on the boulevard, daemon currently trailing behind them and playing with the fur on the bottom of their cloak when they slow. ]
Hello there, Miss Mikotoba! I'd be glad to talk now, if you'd like to spend some time together?
It's nice to meet you as well. [A small bow to them and the daemon.]
. . . I had spoken to two of the Celestials, but I wouldn't feel right only hearing half the story. And. . . perhaps it's silly, but your profile said 'friendly'.
Oh, I don't think it's silly at all. I try to be as friendly as I can, and... [ they laugh a little, scooping the daemon up in one arm and holding them like a baby. ] Well, I told someone earlier that a stranger's just a friend you haven't met yet. We might not be meeting on the best of terms, but still, I'd like it if some of us could make the best of it.
I'd like to believe so. I'm not... necessarily sure, especially since all six of us are waiting for some kind of sign, ourselves. But if we can help, then we'll help.
I wonder what your goals are. Or the goal that your side is working for. I'm sure you cannot be specific, but do you intend to do something that would harm the worlds we come from?
I am. [ there's no surprise with this line of thought, but they do smile a little wanly. ] What I agreed to was something that would, hopefully, do the opposite of that. I can tell you that much. So I really, sincerely, hope that no one comes to harm, no matter whose side they're on.
And no one deserves to have their loved ones held hostage like that. Even the worst people I've met, I wouldn't want that for them.
[ their mouth opens to answer, and then they seem to think better of it, pressing their lips into a thin line. it's firm enough that the color - gold-washed as it is by dust - fades for a moment. ]
Can I ask that all of you help us find out the truth, Miss Mikotoba? Not as a Watcher, really, because you're welcome to make your own decisions about all of us, and this. But just for the sake of finding it.
Thank you. [ a little relief sets in at their shoulders. ] I hope that you're able to learn more answers for your questions from the Celestials, but I'll answer any that I think I can. It... probably won't be that many, to be honest with you, but I would at least like to try.
[ they fold their hands together, palm-to-palm and fingertips directed down, contemplative... ]
... I want to. They aren't at all anything like the one I have from home, who I would trust with my whole heart and my life, but I want to believe the best in people at first chance. I know we can't, sometimes, and we should follow our gut when it tells us that we should be more careful, but I want to.
. . . I agree with you that believing the best in people is an admirable quality. Even so, I have had occasion myself to see that. . . even good-hearted people can deceive you. They will tell lies and half-truths to protect someone, or because they truly believe them, or simply because they cannot bear for others to see what they feel they must hide.
So I think that believing the best in someone often means to believe in the goodness of their heart, to believe that when all the truth comes out they will remain worthy of your trust, but to continue to pursue the truth behind their words even so.
You and me both. [ they laugh a little, although there's little humor to it. ] I think, as much as I want to remain optimistic, I'm not a naïve person. There's been a lot of people that haven't believed that, in the past, but I'm really not. So...
Let's figure out the people that we can trust in all of this, Miss Mikotoba. I think there's goodness in your heart, so if nothing else, I'd like to be friendly if not friends while we're here.
I would like that as well, Satariel-san. Whether or not we are pursuing different goals, so long as we both want to learn the truth I am sure we will be able to be friends.
I'm glad, at least, that we can have that, in a place and situation like this. Even for whatever being on "opposite sides" entails, I think the truth is what's important here. And taking care of each other. I don't want any of you to come to harm, or stay here any longer than you have to against your will.
It's our job as Watchers to help all of you, but it's something I want to do personally, too. [ smiling! ] Whenever you'd like to talk, Miss Mikotoba, please feel free to reach out. Whether it's something serious, or someone to listen, or just a chat - I'll happily answer.

[She doesn't seem to be surprised by that answer.]
Then I believe. . . either you or the Celestials. It sounds as though one of you is being lied to.

. . . Thank you, Satariel-san. It was good to speak to you. I already feel that I understand a little better what we must do.
