[ they fold their hands together, palm-to-palm and fingertips directed down, contemplative... ]
... I want to. They aren't at all anything like the one I have from home, who I would trust with my whole heart and my life, but I want to believe the best in people at first chance. I know we can't, sometimes, and we should follow our gut when it tells us that we should be more careful, but I want to.
. . . I agree with you that believing the best in people is an admirable quality. Even so, I have had occasion myself to see that. . . even good-hearted people can deceive you. They will tell lies and half-truths to protect someone, or because they truly believe them, or simply because they cannot bear for others to see what they feel they must hide.
So I think that believing the best in someone often means to believe in the goodness of their heart, to believe that when all the truth comes out they will remain worthy of your trust, but to continue to pursue the truth behind their words even so.
You and me both. [ they laugh a little, although there's little humor to it. ] I think, as much as I want to remain optimistic, I'm not a naïve person. There's been a lot of people that haven't believed that, in the past, but I'm really not. So...
Let's figure out the people that we can trust in all of this, Miss Mikotoba. I think there's goodness in your heart, so if nothing else, I'd like to be friendly if not friends while we're here.
I would like that as well, Satariel-san. Whether or not we are pursuing different goals, so long as we both want to learn the truth I am sure we will be able to be friends.
I'm glad, at least, that we can have that, in a place and situation like this. Even for whatever being on "opposite sides" entails, I think the truth is what's important here. And taking care of each other. I don't want any of you to come to harm, or stay here any longer than you have to against your will.
It's our job as Watchers to help all of you, but it's something I want to do personally, too. [ smiling! ] Whenever you'd like to talk, Miss Mikotoba, please feel free to reach out. Whether it's something serious, or someone to listen, or just a chat - I'll happily answer.

. . . Thank you, Satariel-san. It was good to speak to you. I already feel that I understand a little better what we must do.
