I'm not entirely sure how it worked for you back in your world, but basically whenever you decide to trigger it is all up on you. No one will be the wiser of it happening, so you don't have to worry about that.

Anything that you learn will be strictly for your private knowledge. So, if you want to graciously share it or not is entirely up for you.
