SNAKE
ROLE: SNAKE

WE ALL KNOW ONE OR ARE ONE
On Monday, at 12 PM EST / 9 AM PST / 11 AM CST, Jack catches Flat's attention. Both will innately know that they have somewhere to be, and Jack will be able to lead the way—even if they've never been there before. His form changes, as they're accustomed to, but takes that of a snake, and upon reaching their destination, they will be greeted by the Watchers.
After finishing their business, Flat and Jack will not be able to return to this location again without being invited back, regardless of whether they attempt to return on the same day or in the same week. Jack will be able to take his snake form again on his own, but will revert to one of his original forms upon leaving. Flat and Jack both will both know that this form cannot be shared openly, and that caution should be practiced with sharing it privately, as well.

As the snake, Jack will be given a new task with each new week. Though the specific tasks may vary, all must be completed before Friday at 6 PM EST / 3 PM PST / 5 PM CST. Should Jack report successful task completion in time, they may be rewarded. Should they fail, they may be punished.
Additionally, Jack may use this time to speak directly with the Celestials each week. He may ask questions, receive small hints, or simply chat with them, though any information received will be subject to the Watchers' own discretion.

★ Keep it secret.
★ Use your daemon’s snake form sparingly.
★ You will be given one task each week, to be completed by Friday at 6 PM EST / 3 PM PST / 5 PM CST.
★ If the task is completed and reported by the deadline, you may receive a reward.
★ If the task is not completed on time, you may be punished.
★ If you are asked to murder, you will not be allowed to confess before or during trial, and no evidence will be left behind pointing to you.

I quit.

I, I'm sorry, Flat.
no subject
but everyone that he promised… ]
I can’t do that.
[ his voice wavers; cracks. ]
I can’t do that to the others.
no subject
I... I know but... It'd be for her own good. The others would understand.
[ a slight squeeze. ]
I'm sure some of them would.
no subject
he’s afraid. terrified. especially after what he did…
but when she says that it’s for a-qing’s good, flat’s eyes widen. he sets an unsteady hand on her shoulder.
as for jack, it’s hanging around flat’s neck, though it looks less active than usual. ]
What… what do you mean?
no subject
her daemon tweeting sadly at jack's lethargy. ]
Lately there's been an issue with her Dust. It's very unstable and runs the risk of attracting Spectres to us or worse, affecting the rest of us.
So, to prevent this, she needs to be killed.
no subject
[ flat seems to still, closing his eyes.
when he opens them, they’re calm, but clearly full of concern. ]
And there’s nothing else that can be done for her? Knocking her out, for example? Won’t that work?
no subject
[ she'll give him one final squeeze before pulling away and taking a hold of his hands. ]
I am so sorry, Flat. I know this isn't what you want to do. If there was anything that I knew I could do to stop this or prevent it being you—I, I am truly sorry.

[ …
flat, for a moment, looks like he’s about to break. the situation that he’s been given…it’s just too sad, isn’t it? so many people that he’ll be letting down…what would his professor do, in this situation? powerless and with no other options, how can flat do the impossible and keep honoring the values of the el-melloi classroom?
he can’t, can he?
now he knows what it’s like, to be in waver’s shoes. so weak, so pathetic, it’s almost sad.
even shamsiel’s apologies seem distant now. she’s there, gripping his hands, but… is she really there? what do her words mean, in the long run? what does any of this mean, in the long run?
… ]
no subject
…
and smiles.
he can’t do anything. he’ll let everyone down.
but that’s fine. better him than anyone else.
he holds her hands weakly; a body weighed down by exhaustion. regardless, he smiles. ]
Okay. I won’t let any of you down.
no subject
she doesn't exactly know what is going on in that mind of his but she doesn't quite need to know everything to know that this is just another feather—not a good one—that will just wear on him.
he...tries to do be something better than he is. a distinct and different entity than the "other". ]
You've done so good for us—for everyone, Flat. Maybe you might have taken a few missteps but—
[ she holds onto his hands firmly and looks him straight in the face, pulling him closer to her if she must. ]
I'm proud of you, Flat. You— [ she won't cry but she feels for him. ] If only I could take this burden from you. ...and at least...we'll make sure nothing happens to you.
[ is that really comfort though? ]
no subject
[ flat says this easily, shaking his head. it's been a tough weekend for him, and it almost feels like this might be the straw that will break the camels back. but he has to resist. he has no choice but to hold on.
...
he sighs softly. if this is his fate, then he'll simply accomplish it. however... ]
This is a request from you guys, right? Not from above? [ a pause. ] But it doesn't matter anyways, does it? I still can't tell anyone, right? Just like all the other murderers.
[ he's not going to mince words. once he does this, he's a killer, just like the rest. ]
no subject
Correct. You won't be able to say anything and the only ones who you would be able to talk to about this would be us. [ a horrible secret. ] The only way you'd be able to say anything is if you were caught, but because of your role... We can't let that happen.
[ which is actually awful? imagine being told to kill and then knowing that you can do that and be assured to get away with it—mostly. because wow people and their crazy leaps of logic. ]
...not that I would want anything to happen to you even if you weren't a role.
no subject
[ flat's not that much of a stranger to secrets. he's had secrets his whole life...hell, being a magi meant constantly keeping secrets. what's one more to add to the pile?
(it's a lot, actually)
flat breathes in. grips her hands in his. ]
A-Qing...does she know? Shouldn't someone tell her?
no subject
[ she'll keep her hands steady for him as well as her composure. all of this is bad but they'll...unfortunately work through it logically. but with feeling.
however it works?? but it's still terrible actually. very terrible. ]
A-Qing doesn't know and she wouldn't know. She isn't able to see how her Dust is different than anyone else's. Only those with the ability to see it can or objects that allow it will be able to.
no subject
[ it's an honest question. flat looks down at her, his brows knit together in frustration.
he feels sad. sad that he can't do anything more for her. ]
If she has to die, don't you think that she should know why before? At least...then she might not be so scared. When I kill her.
no subject
I can't, but...you could talk to her. It would be okay to tell her why you're going to kill her and why. I'm sure she wouldn't quite understand, but at least she would know.
[ which sounds totally fucked up as it is. ]
As a Watcher, I still can't interfere with things like this.
no subject
[ flat nods. ]
And, again, this is…you guys’ request, right? Not your higher-ups?
no subject
[ because it's a very, very small mercy that's allowed. though she'll frown next. ]
At this point, I don't think they're talking to us anymore. What little we hear from them is only passing messages.
They have some still have influence in a few things, of course, however if that makes us look worse because we're asking you to do this then... I'll accept the judgement.
no subject
[ the laugh that bubbles out is a bit broken at the edges, but it’s an honest one. flat smiles sheepishly, shaking his head as he gives her a reassuring grip of her hands. ]
I can’t judge anyone. Maybe…if it had come from your boss I would have really said no, but… if it’s from you guys, then I guess you really need the help. If I were my Professor, I’m sure he would at least find a way to postpone it in order to keep her and us safe, but… I can’t think of a single thing.
[ which is a sad thing. as the genius that could always do the impossible, to find himself truly stumped felt… frustrating. ]
You…must be tired too, no? All of you?
no subject
And neither can I. There's not a single thing that I can do to help this situation to make it better for you and especially for A-Qing.
[ and because its honesty week, she really can't hide this truth like she normally would think to. ]
I am. [ she's a bit embarrassed to say this. ] I'm not too tired that I can't continue to move forward, but it gets harder to watch all of you carry all of this weight. It's not fair to any of you.
no subject
[ he shakes his head, still smiling. ]
It’s not fair to you either, so I think that we can all relate on that. But people are working hard to help bring everyone back…and I hope that we can save you guys too. I won’t let them leave you behind!
no subject
[ which will make her smile slightly even though all of this is just. hey why is flat trying to comfort her? hello? oh well...she'll give their hands a squeeze as a sign of thanks. ]
...and just how do you think you'll be able to save everyone, Flat? What have you and the others thought of?
no subject
[ flat puts a hand on his chin, deep in thought. ]
We want to destroy your boss, I think. I know the dead are looking to make a bomb somehow and, while we may run into patenting issues, I’d like to do something similar—but I need your help!
