A MEASURE OF TRUTH

On Monday, at 7 PM EST / 4 PM PST / 5 PM MST and later in the week on Friday at the same times, Disce catches Nero's attention. Both will innately know that they have somewhere to be, and Disce will be able to lead the way—even if they've never been there before. Her form changes, as they're both accustomed to, but takes that of a pine marten, and upon reaching their destination, they will be greated by the Watchers.

After finishing their business, Nero and Disce will not be able to return to this location again without being invited back, regardless of whether they attempt to return on the same day or in the same week. Disce will be able to take her pine marten form again on her own, but will revert to one of her original forms upon leaving. Nero and Disce both will know that this form cannot be shared openly, and that caution should be practiced with sharing it privately, as well.


As the reader, Nero will be given the opportunity to ask two questions each week, using the alethiometer to find an answer. They will have two meetings with the Watchers a week, on Monday and Friday, after awakening. They may ask both questions on Monday or save them until Friday, or they may split their questions between these meetings. Any further questions they ask of the alethiometer will remain unanswered.

The questions asked will be Nero's own choice, and any answers will be given in a series of symbols from the alethiometer. Nero will be granted only one initial meaning for each of the symbols on the alethiometer, and any others will have to be discovered on their own. Keep in mind that this leaves room for some answers to be interpreted incorrectly, leading to a false reading; while the alethiometer can be used to find the truth, it will by no means give an easy answer.

Additionally, Nero may use this time to speak directly with the Watchers each week. He may ask questions, receive small hints, or simply chat with them, though any information received will be subject to the Watchers' own discretion.

★ Use your daemon’s pine marten form sparingly.
★ Never let anyone else use the alethiometer.
★ If too many participants learn about the alethiometer, it will be requisitioned.
★ The alethiometer may answer up to two questions per week.
★ There are other meanings to each symbol beyond the basic meanings. You must learn to interpret them on your own.

Mm... the weekend was hard, but I'm not the one who suffered most.

[ there's yukio, rin, and shamsiel before them. any concern should be sent their way instead. ]

How about you, Mister Turner? I heard they'd suspected you during the trial. That couldn't have been easy to withstand, either.

[ Closes his eyes. ] Might happen again, if there's another set of footprints on a scene.

[grigori]

That's true... [ sighs. ] I really wish we could help you more, but there's not much we can do about the evidence left or how you all vote. Still, no one wants to see someone innocent take the fall.

[ icly, that is. ]

How much would it be to get something checks if evidence is planted or not?

[ after taking a moment to consider... ]

Angel, wild man, and sword.

I think the angel's might be your higher ups, the wild man... the people from different worlds? I asked "who", so I dunno why I got the sword. "Justice"?

I don't know if the angels really need to open windows... But the natives of those worlds does make sense for the "wild man" symbol, I guess. Though I guess it could be more literal, too?

[ as for the last one... hm. ]

Maybe someone thought they were doing the right thing, somehow?

... Hm. The "messenger" from a few weeks back? Just... literally a wild man? Somebody cut free of "order"?

The note called 'em greedy, but sword can mean justice.

Mm... I'm not sure if that's right, either. Maybe... think about where we started? And what the "windows" are, and how they're created.

Everyone has a different form of justice, though, don't they? Even if one person seems greedy to another, they can still believe they're doing what's right.

[Nero, very battered, turns to literally all of them and hopes one of them has an answer.]

Earth is where Japan is, right? What's Earth??

Japan is on Earth, yes, but... Wh, what does that have to do with this?

I got bull twice for my question. The startin' point is Earth. I ain't from there. What's Earth supposed to connect to?

[ can't believe this is the first time she'll be summoned and she's just going to blink at him. ]

Why would a bull and earth be related in the first place? Wouldn't think of something closer to being stubborn?

They always say that when you're really stubborn like a bull or, well, mule... But bulls can be pretty stubborn except that doesn't make sense with your question does it?

[Anybody who has heard of earth could have taken the summons, but it's still nice to talk to her.]

I asked who the Authority was, because apparently it's not the Creator.

Apple three times, bull twice, and marionette three times. Apple as... some kinda disaster? It's been associated with sin and calamity before. Marionette's been some kind of coercion, manipulation, exerting control of somethin'?

[ me: i didn't mean to use gendered pronouns, also me: it's wk4 who cares. ]

Is the apple linked to calamity for one of its meanings? I would have thought that it would be more obvious. Eat the apple of knowledge for the original Sin.

[ she'll stick one finger in the air as to making a point. though then press it to her cheek (face). ]

As for marionette...those do sound like good options, however, I wonder if that makes sense in this context. The Authority manipulating the Creator seems a bit backwards, doesn't it?

I've read apple as sin, crimes, and calamity so far.

In this case it's more like... "the Authority" is controlling the name of the Creator. Pretendin' to be somebody they aren't.

and well. she was going to comment about more of the apple reading except when nero brings up his final point, she'll stop and just smile weakly at him. ]

It certainly seems to be the case, doesn't it? Is that an assessment you had on your own or something that you're questioning?

I see.

While the symbols give clues, I wonder if we'll even need them for this. Perhaps we can go off of what you might suspect who "The Authority" is and work our ways backwards.

The full note was... "The Authority is not the Creator it claims to be. It is easy to fall victim to their lies, as one of the eldest beings of this universe. Xaphania is no exception, and to have one's pride wounded is to no longer seek understanding."

So if they're a liar, uh... was that the snake in the Garden of Eden? Or maybe somethin' that sent it.

[ shamsiel will clasp their hands together as they take a moment to answer things. ]

Not...exactly. I think the answer is easier than you might think it is. I do think you're on the right track with apple being "sin", but perhaps it's a specific type of "sin".

You're not from earth but has something like that come across you before?
