A MEASURE OF TRUTH

On Monday, at 7 PM EST / 4 PM PST / 5 PM MST and later in the week on Friday at the same times, Disce catches Nero's attention. Both will innately know that they have somewhere to be, and Disce will be able to lead the way—even if they've never been there before. Her form changes, as they're both accustomed to, but takes that of a pine marten, and upon reaching their destination, they will be greated by the Watchers.

After finishing their business, Nero and Disce will not be able to return to this location again without being invited back, regardless of whether they attempt to return on the same day or in the same week. Disce will be able to take her pine marten form again on her own, but will revert to one of her original forms upon leaving. Nero and Disce both will know that this form cannot be shared openly, and that caution should be practiced with sharing it privately, as well.


As the reader, Nero will be given the opportunity to ask two questions each week, using the alethiometer to find an answer. They will have two meetings with the Watchers a week, on Monday and Friday, after awakening. They may ask both questions on Monday or save them until Friday, or they may split their questions between these meetings. Any further questions they ask of the alethiometer will remain unanswered.

The questions asked will be Nero's own choice, and any answers will be given in a series of symbols from the alethiometer. Nero will be granted only one initial meaning for each of the symbols on the alethiometer, and any others will have to be discovered on their own. Keep in mind that this leaves room for some answers to be interpreted incorrectly, leading to a false reading; while the alethiometer can be used to find the truth, it will by no means give an easy answer.

Additionally, Nero may use this time to speak directly with the Watchers each week. He may ask questions, receive small hints, or simply chat with them, though any information received will be subject to the Watchers' own discretion.

★ Use your daemon’s pine marten form sparingly.
★ Never let anyone else use the alethiometer.
★ If too many participants learn about the alethiometer, it will be requisitioned.
★ The alethiometer may answer up to two questions per week.
★ There are other meanings to each symbol beyond the basic meanings. You must learn to interpret them on your own.

Ah... Yes? They did talk to us, but it was more of a spur of the moment decision kind of thing.

They did talk to you, but nobody actually had any time to think about agreein' to their terms?

[ nods. ]

Yep. We had to decide right then and there, or we'd miss the chance entirely.

[perfectdistance]

Man... Talk about trappin' people.

[grigori]

[ a hum of agreement. ]

I'd still be more worried about all of you than us. You didn't even get that choice, and that isn't fair to any of you - least of all with all the risks it puts you through.

[perfectdistance]

If you did say no, would they've destroyed your world?

[grigori]

[ their head dips and shadows cover their face under the hood. ]

If I'm being totally honest, Mister Turner, they may not have needed to. My world... It's already out of control. Nothing is how it used to be. I still have faith that we can do something about it, but more people give up every day.

That's why I agreed - because I want to save people, as many people as I can. I don't want anyone else to have to experience the kind of fear that comes with watching your world fall apart.

[Out of control- makes sense why the Celestials came for them. Who wants order as badly as somebody who doesn't have it?

Disce curls up on his chest and he starts patting her.]

'm sorry you had t' watch your world go through that.

[Saving everyone... that's not really something that aligns with his own values. Still, he can appreciate people who are like this.]

[ shakes their head. ]

There's still hope for my world, and I have to hold onto that. There are others out there who never got a chance, and more that still need a helping hand. So...

[ spreads their hands, palm up. ]

Here I am.

[Hope... It's not really a word somebody as pessimistic as him tends to use. Not an Eastern or Northern value. If it comes to North, they'll take the future into their own two hands and twist it into whatever they want. East? He's here on the floor, isn't he?]

Here you all are. [All of the Watchers, with little time to decide, with their worlds on the precipice of disaster. Maybe.]

Do you know... what happens to those who die here? At execution, they turn into Dust. But they can still send letters.

[ they fidget a bit. ]

We don't know for sure, except that they go somewhere else. So they're still out there, for the most part. Just... unreachable, for now, except by letter.

[perfectdistance]

That's so vague...

So they're still kinda around. Think we can get 'em back?

[grigori]

I don't know... That's kind of a tricky thing to ask, you know? I mean, technically, they're still around, but that doesn't change that they've died.

There's ways to bind the dead to the living, but...

[He shrugs.]

I dunno all the rules here.

At home a wizard or witch can sacrifice part of their magic to bind somebody to the living.

Do... they do that often?

[perfectdistance]

No. Only ever heard of one person doin' it.

That's... probably a good thing, right?

[ zombies are usually bad in the movies?? ]
