KNIFEBEARER
ROLE: KNIFEBEARER

THE LAST KNIFE OF ALL
On Sunday following execution, Finley catches Kotetsu's attention. Both will innately know that they have somewhere to be, and Finley will be able to lead the way—even if they've never been there before. Her form changes, as they're both accustomed to, but takes that of a maine coon, and upon reaching their destination, they will be greated by the Watchers.
After finishing their business, Kotetsu and Finley will not be able to return to this location again without being invited back, regardless of whether they attempt to return on the same day or in the same week. Finley will be able to take her maine coon form again on her own, but will revert to one of her original forms upon leaving. Kotetsu and Finley both will know that this form cannot be shared openly, and that caution should be practiced with sharing it privately, as well.

As the knifebearer, Kotetsu will be presented with three choices of new worlds to explore the following week. Each world will come with a brief description of the feelings or sensations associated with it, and Kotetsu may only choose one. No further details will be offered regarding each world until the following Monday. Choose wisely!
Additionally, Kotetsu may use this time to speak directly with the Watchers each week. He may ask questions, receive small hints, or simply chat with them, though any information received will be subject to the Watchers' own discretion.

★ Keep it secret.
★ Never open a window without closing it.
★ Never let anyone else use the knife.
★ Never use it for a base purpose.
★ If too many participants learn about the knife, it will be requisitioned.
★ Use your daemon’s maine coon form sparingly.
★ You must choose one world each week.
★ If you choose not to act, a choice will be made for you.

Good. I'll make sure they know.

[ but a little more serious. ]
What happened at the trial... I didn't realize there were other roles. I probably should have, but I never asked.

Even if you had, we wouldn't have been able to answer. If you're to find each other, you have to do it on your own - but not like that. That's why they tell you to keep it secret.

It gets a little hard lying to people, but I know it's for the best.

[ it hurt ): ]
I understand not wanting to lie, but... thank you.
[ they execute a formal bow, or at least they try. it's a little awkward, with their injuries. ]

I knew it'd put me at risk, but I didn't know you guys would also be at risk. I don't regret my choice of who I shared it with and I'm sure it'll be safe. That we'll all be safe from something like that happening.
I hope everyone learned from it.
...Are you able to answer if any of those murders were related to the roles?
no subject
[ van zieks, that is. they heard a number of people chiding him, and while some of it was valid, well... ]
We can't, no. I'm sorry.
no subject
[ he means well. kotetsu gets that. ]
Didn't think so, but it was worth a shot asking.

[ they nod. ]
It was a good question. It's just one of those things that you have to find out on your own again.

It must be hard for you all. All of this.

But if it falls into the wrong hands, it could also cause problems.

...I don't really want to think too hard about that possibility, though. As long as you've got it, it'll be alright.
[ "please, don't die" goes unspoken, but it's there. ]

[ shakes his head softly. ]
I pushed through the execution, right? I have to keep this safe. It isn't just my promise that helps me keep going, but this task as well. I can't let it get to me. Even if I feel like trying to tear down the barriers with it.
[ there is a moment's pause ]
...I got a letter from Nine. It means they have to be alive somewhere, right? Could I...?
[ He brings his hand to his chest, where he keeps his knife. ]
no subject
[ they'd say the higher powers do, too, but well. public opinion of them isn't great at the moment. ]
They aren't... alive, in the same way we are. But they aren't gone, either. [ ... ] It's possible that you could reach them with the knife, but you'd need to find it first, the same way you do with the other worlds you choose.
no subject
[ he thinks about that ]
But would it be right bringing them back? If they're not alive... would that cause more problems? Like how the spectres came to punish the people that kept the windows open.
no subject
[ voice soft, they sound almost lost. ]
I don't have that kind of answer. The ones we work for... they'd probably say we shouldn't, but they don't really have the same regard for people's lives that we do. My guess is that they'd say we shouldn't worry about someone that's no longer with us.
[ hard to agree with that, though. ]
no subject
I don't think that's fair when they're the ones that insisted on making this game in the first place. I want to save them.
