Constellations again... For me those are just stars in the sky, but for you, those are more than that, right?
[ they're happy that he was able to barter and save a soul but. uh. they're going to get stuck on a minor(?) detail before being exactly on the boat with that. ]
Th, though did you really go meet Hades and Persephone? Like in the Greek myths? Or does your world just share similar names? Because what I know of that story is...maybe different.
That's right. They're god-like beings. But, they do make up the stars in the night sky. Each one would represent a Constellation.
[ You know, a good point to focus on! ] That I did. Constellations can actually be those mentioned in Greek myths, or historical figures... so I did have the chance to meet the ones mentioned in the myths. Persephone, better known by her constellation modifier < Queen of the Darkest Spring > and her husband Hades, < Father of the Rich Night. >
If you want to believe it, they more or less took me in as their adopted son. [ He looks... embarrassed by that fact. But there's endearment as well. He cares for them. ]
It almost sounds romantic but maybe that might a little creepy. Imagining so many people just watching you. M, maybe that sounds funny coming from a Watcher but that's a wider scale...
A few Watchers keeping an eye on us versus countless Constellations watching a broadcast for their entertainment and pleasure.
[ The Watchers do Not seem to be enjoying this, not like Constellations back home would, so, you're fine. ]
They needed an heir, so I offered. Admittedly I did it mostly to have control over their army to help aid my group in the coming scenarios. [ Yeah. Because the Constellations weren't good, but they had power he could make use to, to get closer to his conclusion. Yet... ] But they later told me they already knew of my intentions and they accepted it despite knowing. That I was still their 'son' anyways.
[ He says it with a hint of fond, even if he doesn't seem like he deserves it? Doesn't deserve the kindness they have for him. ]
I see. I would have thought them to be immortal and that they wouldn't need to have to worry about heirs, but maybe that's too closed mind thinking.
[ saying this as though they suddenly understand all of it. (they don't but they'll accept it.) ]
Was it as easy as you said to become their "son"?
[ clearly fine with the fact that he did it for power reason, but you know, there was a clear reason for it and dokja doesn't seem bad. sometimes you just need a possibly undead army. ]
It's a wonder then, why they don't just pass on to an actual heir with divine blood. Persephone's answer when they questioned her was, "We don’t want to have children and use them in the long-term war." Which is why they chose to pick a successor instead.
[ But. ] I said I offered but... really, they chose me. I remember how shocked I was when I read the message, "[The constellation ‘Father of the Rich Night’ wants to make you the successor of the Underworld King.]" It should've been Yoo Joonghyuk, but it was me that they chose.
[ And the reason for that? ] A while back, I cut off Yamata no Orochi's head to complete Persephone’s task, so I was able to save a soul in exchange for it. But that very same task apparently was also what made me qualify to be their successor. [ undead army let's go!!! ]
[ honestly? hearing their reasoning gets a sad nod from them. it makes sense but it is still sad to think about in some ways. unable to have children especially if they wanted some. the "if" part being something they wonder.
nevertheless—something sticks out to them. ]
Why would you think that it would have been Joonghyuk in the first place? Is...it because he's moody? O, or is that stereotyping them too much?
[ haha. ]
Yamata no Orochi... So you were involved with more than Greek myths as well. Well, I'm glad that you were able to become their successor and get what you were looking for. It certainly sounds like you went through quite a bit to get there.
[ Ah... that. Dokja can't help but laugh a little, shaking his head. ]
Ah, n-no... in a different life, Yoo Joonghyuk ended up being a successor for them is why. Though, you aren't wrong. Joonghyuk-ah can be quite grumpy, huh?
[ hahahaha. ]
Mmm. I've gone through a lot to get where I am, but it's worth it to reach the ending I want for my companions.
He can be, but I don't think he's unkind. He just has a very particular way of expressing himself. [ they'll take a moment to tap their chin. ] "Rough around the edges", I believe would be one of the ways to describe him.
[ hmm. despite him laughing there's something interesting about his wording. they'll tilt their head to a side. ]
Hmm.. Yoo Joonghyuk comes off as sharp, blunt, and excessively rude. He won't hesitate to threaten people who irritate him but... he will always look out for those he cares for.
[ But lately, there's been more of him, hasn't there? He's been seeing a bit more of Yoo Joonghyuk while here that's a bit new. ]
...I have a feeling I know what my ending may be. In getting to it, I'll be able to give them theirs as well. [ That's the hope. That's what he believes. ]
That's what I think too. It's funny to think that you'd want him to be more honest about these things when he's already so upfront about it all.
[ a brief laugh before they soften. ]
I see, well, I surely hope that you also get your happy ending, Dokja. Anyone who cares about you would want you to have that, especially if you have been going out of your way for theirs.
