This isn't a game to me, maybe someone might think of it as a game, but I have some personal stakes in this "conflict".

Somebody is toying with us, whether or not it is you. Just what are these stakes you have in this "conflict"?

I wouldn't call it "toying" with us but what they're doing isn't exactly within the terms of service.

Now, as for what my stakes are, it's simply just to protect the people who mean the most to me. Easy.

Who are they? The others among the Temporals, or do you mean individuals that we have no knowledge of thus far?

"They" would be best described as my boss but I can't speak of my boss. I'll end up in big trouble if I do.

Maybe they'll give me more rope to use to properly hang myself with and I'll be able to say more, but for now—my boss is calling the shots and I'm going to keep behaving.

[ nodding to themselves. ]

[She's seen what happens if they say something they're not supposed to... but hey, hm, would it be gold dust as well? Or would the Temporals poof into a different color? Let's not try to find out yet]

I suppose I ought to have been more clear, though that does answer another question I had thought to ask. What I meant to ask about were the people you want to protect, however.

That's a bit personal, isn't it? I'd wager you'd need to rank up at least two more times with me to even learn a fraction of that knowledge.

I was hardly asking for their names. [But she guesses that means it's probably not Satariel or Yomiel, though, which is basically an answer?

At any rate, I wanted to ask you about the Temporals and the Celestial Watchers. How were we sorted into each group?

Randomly.

[ their voice was completely deadpan for half a second before laughing. ]

I don't know. That is a question that only the boss can answer and we know about how I am about the boss. Is about how you're on the opposite of your twin?

I know not what you expect of us, but know that if anything should happen to him due to our separation, I will make each and every one of you rue the day you agreed to be part of this.

Well, then. Perhaps you ought to consider not being so opaque.

[So here's an opportunity for you to let some of that brilliance shine through, Rameel:]

I'm given to understand that you and the Celestials represent opposing sides of this conflict. What is it that you all are fighting over that some sort of compromise can't be reached?

[grigori]

I'm shocked how many of you are willing to think that compromise is something that hasn't been considered before.

[ they tap their chin. ]

Let's say that it's very complicated in terms of what we disagree over. I realize that's hardly an answer, but I can only tell you so much. I very much so like being my corporeal self.

I said nothing about whether compromise had ever been considered; I simply asked why one could not be reached. Trust me, I am quite familiar with conflicts that are only solved through steel.

I shall phrase it a different way: The Celestials state that the Temporals--and by extension, we--wish to harm other worlds. Are they correct?

[grigori]

Do Temporals actively wish and seek to harm worlds?

[ they'll make weighing motions with both of their hands. ]

It doesn't fit into the narrative of me wanting to protect those I care about.

Does it truly not? I can think of many cases where it might fit into just such a narrative.

Yes or no, Rameel: If the Temporals "win" this dispute, other worlds will be harmed. Not your world specifically, not those whom you care about--other worlds.

[grigori]

I don't think I have an informed enough opinion to make a statement either way. What the Celestials are claiming are what they're claiming and what I've said is what I've been aware of.

I'm not one to overstep my boundaries.
