We might not be at risk, but the people who are older are still worth protecting. And like, if I'm too young to be targeted, then that means I'm perfect for protecting someone older, right?
Kind of? See, in my world, you can only see demons if you're a demon yourself or if you've been injured by a demon. Normal people can't see them at all. That's why I thought of it: maybe with my demon vision I might be able to see them? But I guess just seeing them wouldn't be enough, I would need my fire too to stop them.
Even if it's limited, sonething's better than nothing. Being able to protect others, that's what I'd like to do.
Before I ended up in this place, I was learning to control what I burn. So like, burning a piece of paper out of someone's hand but not burning the person. It's tricky! But something like that's pretty useful.
Ohhh... You'd have to be really precise about something like that, wouldn't you? Can you actually control the flames once something's already burning? I've never seen someone do that before.
Yeah, you do. Shura- that's one of my teachers- she had me train it by putting three candles in a row, and then I had to light the two on the end without lighting the one in the middle.
She's really strong and tough! But she's also a hardass. She won't let you slip up, not even a little bit. But it's probably for the best, yeah? I've learned a lot from her.
Sounds a lot like mine, honestly! He takes the rules really seriously, and he can be really intense and hard on us. But it's all to help us get better, you know? We wouldn't learn as much from someone who holds back, and we need that kind of thing to keep pushing forward.
Sounds like we've got a lot in common, Mister Okumura!
[He's happy to hear that tbh, he likes being similar to others.]
How many others are training with you? There's six others besides me in my group. Oh- but not Yukio, he's one of our teachers. So he's with us but not one of the students.
Um... I think it's about forty people, in my school? There are two classes, but we don't really see the others as much.
Your brother's one of the teachers? But you're the same age! Is he supposed to be a genius or something? [ wait... ] But how can he teach you if you're learning how to control your demon abilities? You said he was just human.
You think? There was so much competition getting in that forty doesn't feel like much at all.
[ genuinely surprised? is it a lot? ]
They teach us how to control our powers, firstly, refine them, and strengthen - like with your fire! Besides that and the regular classes, though, it's all about how to help people. Fighting people who use their powers for their own gain, protecting people, working with emergency services if there's some kind of disaster out there. It's all about helping and saving people. but we have to learn the rules too, so we can do it all legally.
A doctor at sixteen, huh? It's hard to imagine someone doing that without any kind of power! It's really impressive! I'm still hoping no one will need that kind of thing while you're all here, but it could really come in handy if someone does - maybe if they get sick, or something?
[Honestly that doesn't sound too different from True Cross Academy, though the class sizes are different.]
Just how many people are competing for spots at your school? Or even, how many people in your world? My school's so small because that's all we have in my part of Japan.
[He does agree with Yukio being helpful here though. "Stanning Yukio" is on his profile after all.]
That's just so weird to hear...where I'm from, it's really unusual for anyone to have special powers, beyond a few very specific things. The closest there is to that kinda thing is chanting prayers that affect demons.
[Even if it's weird to hear, Rin I'd still excited to hear about it. A world with powers! How cool!]

You three took care of them, yeah? Thanks for that. I was really worried about them.

But you're sixteen, right? So you and brother shouldn't be at as high a risk as anyone older would.

I guess the biggest problem would be that you can't see where they are. Getting past that would be the first step.

...Think I would be able to see them if I had any of my demon powers back?

And we could work on getting back your fire, too. That one would probably be more limited, though.

[He laughs.]
I melted so many candles learning how to do that.

Sounds like something my teacher would do, too - always pushing your limits! It's the best way to train!
What's your teacher like?

What about yours?

And he doesn't teach me the demon stuff. He's a doctor, he teaches medicine-things.

What can you do?
no subject
Oh, um... Well, we do have some powers as Watchers, but it's not the same thing as we had at home. So I can't do it here, or I'd show you.
[ apologetic... seems they've been stripped of their power, too. ]
But I can make things float if I touch them.
no subject
But Rin tries to stay positive, because yes. No sadness over a lack of powers!]
That's pretty cool! You'll have to show me when you get yours back, and I'll show you mine too.
But what can you do ad a Watcher?
