[ maybe that's why it all came out, too. who knows! it just rolled off his tongue in the heat of everything. ]
This was a whole different level, I'll agree. It's frustrating, but it almost starts to make you question who you can even trust. I haven't known these people for long... I don't know their history.
But I want to try to believe we can all make it out of here together without any more needless bloodshed.
[ certainly a heat of the moment sort of thing, especially given the moment. ]
Are you the sort, to question those you do or don't trust, Kaburagi? You don't seem to be. [ how dangerous ] But better to be cautious, rather than careless. Keep an eye on the people here, see who might stand out a little more than others in a way that would cause alarm.
Best way that we can try to cut off any further bloodshed, right now.
We're all stuck here with one another. Even if there's the likelihood that you can't trust everyone, probably better to have all of you keeping an eye on each other. [ pause, then with a little bit of dry humor: ] ... though, putting together a task force was met with some pushback, Friday.
It was. I guess people didn't want to have any type of "law enforcement" group. I get them being worried about some kind of power being in the hands of the few, but...
[ he makes a frustrated sound at that ]
We were just trying to help keep people safe. Van Zieks had made a good point bringing it up.
You'll fair better, I think, moving forward. van Zieks could have approached it better to start, but the man doesn't seem to have as many social graces as he thinks he does.
[ just, like, saying it like it is here. van zieks needs to learn how to read the room - this isn't high society. ]
[ oh, thank you. please drag that man across the mud. but he can't help a slight huff of a laugh, despite everything. ]
Most of the people around here don't seem to respond well with that kind of rigid behavior. Maybe it worked where he's from, but... Yeah. I think he needs to learn to adapt to the crowd a little more.
Most of you are children, or civilians, or have issues with authority for whatever reason.
It's not a great mix. The good intentions are there, but you all come from different worlds and backgrounds. Compromise will be hard, but some sort of negotiations aren't impossible, for the sake of safety.
I think some of them are worried we're going to judge them based on some blanket set of hard rules. I know one of the kids was worried about people being condemned for things back home. It's kind of a sticky situation there.
... sometimes, a second chance and a fresh start are what people need. I'm not the most optimistic Celestial here, let alone Watcher, but I can at least agree on that much.

[ he rubs the bridge of his nose ]
I doubt it'll be easy, though.

Even with a divided work load, I'm sure things slip through the cracks... Well, I'll try to keep watch, too.

It's that one moment that can change everything.
[ very sincere in this statement, like it's from experience. ]
And sometimes it's really nice to have a grounding force around.
