krankaz

krankaz depths of the leviathan

Deep in the pitch dark depths of what anyone can only assume to be the ocean on it's floor rests a kingdom surrounded by a bubble. A scenario that seems to be lifted right out of a book and maybe it has been the focal point of a few tales itself—an inspiration. Who is to say? What can be said is that Krankaz stood to be a city and a kingdom on a scale known to very little. The splendor and spectacle of the lands are all there—the intricate buildings, the fine materials that everything is made from, the way that things seem to be constructed not out of necessity but out of expressing wealth. It wouldn't be hard to imagine the streets well-lit and bursting with life and color. However, in its current state it's nothing but speculation of what it could have been.

What the reality is—is that it's a fallen kingdom. A grand city whose residents have abandoned it and where vibrant colors have faded and become dull. Dust, grim, and overgrowth have claimed the structures as their own. Sea salt also attributing to the decay of the buildings and infrastructure with crystals found on the buildings closes to the edge of the Bubble. Perhaps one of the most mysterious part of Krankaz is the existence of the Bubble itself. Who made this bubble? If only there were someone around to ask. But, isn't that another mystery in itself? ( 1, 2, 3, 4 )

technology level: rundown, defunct fantasy science

    1. THE "BUBBLE" - Protecting and surrounding the entire city, is a bubble. The walls of which give slightly when pushed against and yield to any kind of sharp instrument taken to it without breaking. It seems like whoever constructed it originally planned for those who might take a knife or sword to it. However, careful not to push too hard against the walls as you'll go flying through the other side. Unless, that is, you wish to exit the Bubble then you are most welcomed too. Mind that you are on the ocean floor and there is considerable pressure beyond its safety. Let the mods know if you exit the bubble.

One thing to note, is the existence of glass bottles. They litter the edge of the Bubble and unlike in other places, they come in a variety of sizes as opposed to just the simple, smaller ones as seen in other places. It should be obvious what to do with them by now, right? Unless, that is, you've been keeping them.

    2. UNDERWATER CITY - Upon entering the city, an obvious question will come to mind; “What happened here?” There are buildings that reach high into the heavens as to pierce the clouds—buildings that seemed to have been constructed with the finest of materials and engraved with the most intricate designs. The architecture experimental and daring it its designs with grand windows that seem to take up entire walls.

However, all of the buildings are abandoned and are in a state of disrepair. It would dangerous to explore them, though you are free to. Grand structures that were clearly homes of those who lived here are damaged and are slowly falling crumbling to the weight of time. It's entirely uncertain if the ocean itself had any hand in the state of the buildings, but there are salt crystals (pillars) that have collected against some of the balconies. Barnacles have found themselves homes against doors and window sills. The markets and storefronts all have their drapery in tattered ruins with the fabric threadbare as it hangs there.

additional minor city locations: rotting bookshop

But there is still a sense of beauty in all of it with how the plants and fungi that have begun to overtake the buildings glow softly. Fortunate that they do as well as it would be pitch dark without them. Travel deeper into the city, you'll come across a plaza that must have been a centerpiece of entertainment as the shops closest to the plaza look to have been eateries. There is even what looks to have been a stand of sorts made for spectators. What kind of performances were held here?

additional minor plaza locations: musty but salvageable clothing stores, abandoned restaurants and stores with non-perishables

    3. CASTLE - Towering above everything else and in the center of everything is a castle of unspeakable elegance. Made up of multiple towers and smaller buildings surround the grounds—all with grand arches and sprawling gardens between each. Or, well, what must have been gardens as the state of the castle reflects much of what is found with the city itself. The garden which might have contained flowers and plants of all sorts are now overrun with mushrooms and various other fungi that glow softly in a various assortment of colors. Against the arches are vines, of sorts, that have dug themselves between the mortar providing their own kind of lighting. There is a certain level of beauty in all of it.

Further into the castle and beyond the Great Hall, the way splits into three different directions. The right path leads to the kitchen, dining hall, and even further in a ballroom; the left leads to the solar and what look to a door leading to another room; the middle path leads to a staircase that again splits into a west and east wing. Both wings lead to what can only be seen as guest rooms or rooms that belonged to the people who once called this place home. However, located in the east wing is another smaller solar.

For the LEFT on the ground level, the first room that people will enter will be the Solar which will contain plenty of sofas and plush chairs ( as plush as any time weathered chair cushion can be ) as well as tables for simple use. Against the walls of the room will be shelves with books in a disheveled state, but despite the fragility of the pages and books themselves, it's still possible to take a few to read. Largely the books are written in an unknown language, but there are some books that some people here will recognize. Tales of the Battle of Universes perhaps? A book about the 99 Thieves? Tucked away in at the bottom of one of the shelves seem to be couple of stacks of cards—playing cards and some of a mystical nature.

Unfortunately the door to the room attached to this Solar is locked. It will not budge no matter what is done to the door—strangely, soft voices can be heard on the other side.

On the RIGHT side on the ground level, the kitchen is pretty set standard with a wood-burning stove, large tables ready to prepare feasts of various sizes, dishes, cutlery... The works. The only thing that the kitchen lacks is, well, food. There may be a few cans of beans, corn, or some other "food" item here and there but nothing fresh. Good thing that there's plenty of seafood outside of the Bubble, right? The dining room is as grand as the Great Hall but this time with proper sitting. Then, beyond the double doors that lay on the other side of the dinner room open up to a grand ballroom. Scattered about the ballroom are the glass orbs seen from the Great Hall, which can now be seen to house simple bedding. ( 1 )

additional minor locations: rundown servant laundry

    4. GUEST ROOMS - Up the stairs and situated on both sides are empty rooms that are made up of a queen sized bed, an armoire, a desk, and a few chairs for sitting. There is also a private bath located within the room that contains a bath, sink, and a toilet. Now, whether all of it works? It does—poorly. I hope cold water baths aren't a problem. At least there seem to be oils still available of all kinds of scents ( all pleasant ). Better figure out who you're sharing these with, but don't forget your coins if you do.

    5. THRONE ROOM - In the middle of the the staircase is an ornate door that will open up to be what looks to be a throne room given how there will be tiered platforms that have an even more ornate large chair in the middle of it. To either side of the central chair are two smaller chairs that are almost as equally extravagant as the middle chair. Most interesting, though, are the portraits that hang along the walls. Unlike the books in the Solars these are familiar.

    6. COURTYARD - Normally for a castle would have well kept courtyards with shrubberies of all sorts and landscaping of that to impress those who come to visit. Perhaps it had been that way once before—however, if it had, then all that's left behind of any sort of garden maze or topiary has been overgrown and neglected with bioluminescent vines and plants overtaking where they could be. Sculptures of winged beings and creatures litter the land as well as a few benches here and there. Unlike the buildings, however, it would seem that these may have been more deliberately defaced.

    7. SUNKEN SHIP - Exploring the edge of the bubble and even parts of the city will show that there are parts of ships that have met their demise. However, it will be largely just a broken hull, a fallen mast, or some other part of the ship that had broken off and found its way to the ocean floor. Walk far enough along the edge of the bubble and city, will reveal that there is an entire ship (or more accurately galleon) that now calls the seafloor its home. Cracked in half, the bow (front) of the ship until the middle where the fallen mast lays juts right into the Bubble—the walls of such have created a seal around the wreckage—while the rest of the ship remains on the outside. Though the ship is sunken and much of it has been destroyed, the ornate décor and craftsmanship have not been completely lost to time.

What kind of a vessel this must have been when it was still seaworthy. Frightening to perhaps what could have brought it down as well. A storm? A monster? Something else? Tell the mods if you plan on exploring the ship.

    8. CAVE - At the edge of the bubble is an entrance towards to a cave that seems to be forgotten and not well traveled. If anyone traveled it at all. The dirt shows no footprints or that it had been disturbed for any amount of time. The mushrooms that have grown over the buildings within the city, are apparent around the mouth, but nothing within the cave itself. It's nothing but an opening that leads into darkness, however for those who linger a while can hear the faint moans of voices. Let the mods know if you are going to explore the cave.

Stirring in the darkness is...something. Or, well, seems to be a something. It could very well be the darkness playing tricks on your eyes and the noise of the ocean depths causing false reasons for concern. Or—it could be something else out there. Something that might have been responsible for all of the ships that have fallen. But creatures like that only exist in stories of sailors and those who wish to scare others, right? If there was only someone you could talk to about it...
