THE WORLD ANEW
THE WORLD ANEW
New Eden was a place that held so much promise to be something far more of what has been left behind. It was supposed to stand tall among all places and represent something almost divine. However, what is left behind is a land that has been overgrown and fallen into disarray. The flora have reclaimed what had been built by those who used to live here and the fauna run wild without fear. All kinds of fruit bearing trees and edible plants can be found, however there are a few that require a bit more caution handling. As animals go, there is a mix of domesticated animals having "returned to the wild" as well as other more adept to living in a jungle.
There are no people. There are no settlements that haven't been abandoned or have been spared the erosion from time. Despite the overgrowth there are signs that there must have been some sort of conflict that led to its current state. The answer to that lies beyond the overgrowth and within the depths of the jungle. Be mindful of the weather; the skies can open up and flood the lands as though the heavens were crying. Maybe they are?

1. PLATEAU - Towering over the land is a formation that is hard to see in its entirety, however, despite its size and how it juts out of the ground into the sky, it's clear that it isn't a mountain. As high as it goes, it eventually stops and the top flattens out. The sharpness of the flatness coupled with the height of the land form could give someone the idea that it could have been a mountain that had it's top sliced right off. But something like that is impossible. As high and daunting as the plateau may seem, it isn't impossible to scale from where you find yourself nestled in the center. Just be mindful that there's nothing to catch you on your way down if you take one wrong step. ( 1, 2, 3 )
2. CAVE SYSTEM - Careful of where you wander as there is a cave system that someone who is too curious and too careless might get lost in. Yet, for those who want to go spelunking they will be rewarded with with not only an expansive system with naturally formed pathways carved out by underground rivers and waterfalls, but with vast emptied caverns that lay at the end of certain tunnels. In these open areas, it's easy to forget that all of this is underground, especially when there are a broken pot or two. Maybe even some plates. All items that would match what can be found in the ruins.
Those who come unprepared or run into an unfortunate accident, in certain paths they can find themselves surrounded by bioluminescent organisms that live within the dark waters as well as the occasional glowing mushroom here and there. It's not a replacement for a torch, but at least the first step won't be completely unknown. Be careful not to eat any of the glowing mushrooms, however, it wouldn't end well for someone with a curious mind and a big appetite. Looks like this is where you'll be staying, for now. ( 1, 2, 3 )
3. CLEARING - For those who travel deep enough into the overgrowth, they'll be rewarded with finding themselves in an open area and a reprieve from the dense foliage and damp grounds. Here there are no densely packed trees, the waterfalls are just background noise, and the ground seems to be dry. Not bone dry, but not muddy. It might be a good place to settle down and hang out for a while. Go further out from the clearing and then you'll find a small beach of sorts. Here it's very easy to see just how densely packed the rest of the land is as well as how many land formations exist.
Animals can be found throughout New Eden however, in this clearing, it will be easiest to spot them from a distance and without worry of any kind of foliage getting in the way of any attempts to make it your next meal. That is, if you dare to try to make it your next meal before it decides to turn the tables on you. Only if you give them a reason to, of course. ( 1, 2, 3 )
4. RUINS - While there are no people and the tendrils of various plant life dig into the already broken buildings finishing off the job, it's still possible to visit the places where people used to live. What remains hints that these people were advanced enough to have a fully developed civilization. Aqueducts, stony roads, bridges, and remnants of pillars that likely once supported buildings of magnificence can be found. Whoever lived here flourished here. Curiously, though, are scribbles against the walls. Words left behind from the civilization but have been weather worn. ( 1, 2, 3 )
A bit a ways from the rest of where people must have lived is a building that looks even shabbier than the rest. There is no roof and it's uncertain how many walls there were to begin with. All in all, it's not all that different from any other ruined homes here other than it seems that a colony of rodents have made it their home. Curious.
5. TREE - In the middle of it all there is a single tree that differs from all other trees in both size and scale. Around its base are even more ruins but these differ from the ones that were clearly the homes of those who lived here before. The crumbling buildings here hint to have had a different purpose but the meaning of what has been long lost. Marbled walls destroyed and their fragments are scattered across the roots of the tree. Structures that may have been statues rendered unrecognizable. Who stayed here? What purpose was all of this? Someone knew but they're no longer around. Even the words left behind on the fragments give no insight. ( 1 )
6. RIVER - As if there wasn't enough water with the waterfalls that exist within the deeper parts of the overgrowth, but there is a single river that seems to cut through the land nearly separating it into two parts. There is an abundance of fish and other wildlife that would call the water their home in the river. The water itself is almost crystal clear at certain points where the bottom is nearly visible. Careful while navigating the river as it has many different depths to it; what may seem fine to walk by foot for one stretch may lead into a deeper part that can only be crossed either by swimming or boat. Boat not included. ( 1, 2, 3 )
Most interesting is to note that on certain banks of the river little glass bottles that we certainly hope are familiar by this point. Much like in past worlds, they seem to fit a letter (or some other small item) and you may feel compelled to throw it back out into the water. Or you can also keep them for yourself. Once again I am saying that I don't know your life. ( 1 )
