kings the big orange

Everyone wants to come to the big city. That's why you're here in Kings, right? There's something for everyone here, whether you're here to visit or stay, and there's no shortage of things to do. Buses or subways will help you get to where you need to go, but do try not to get lost. The marvels of the modern world can only do so much if you get turned around, especially late at night. It's dangerous out there, you know!

With all the marvels of the modern world, the city is always bustling. There are cafes on every corner, stores of all sorts for your perusal (or window shopping, no one is judging you here), and plenty of restaurants, fast food or otherwise, for you to enjoy. As far as entertainment, you'll find museums, concerts, comedy shows, theater - you name it, and Kings has something to offer. Sure, the crime rate is pretty high, but what do you expect? In a place with so many people, there are bound to be a few bad eggs. Don't let it get you down.

technology level: modern, including cars on the streets - look both ways!
population: highly populated and human, multi-generational and cultural
clothing styles: varied due to being a melting pot city

    1. STAR CIRCLE - With everything from restaurants, shopping, and entertainment, this is the heart of the city. The central plaza has a large space for visitors to sit and relax and enjoy the atmosphere, because who doesn't love being surrounded by advertisments everywhere you look? At the plaza center awaits a large decorative fountain for making wishes, a famous pasttime encouraged by the local church - its waters glittering with coins and glass bottles.

More important is the lifestyle! Everything here is flashy, fashionable, and exciting. Maybe you came to catch a show at the concert hall, or that weird performance art that's happening near the fountain. Or are you here for the shopping, aiming for the designer clothing or the Wintenda store for the latest merch of Maria and Louise? Or maybe you just wanted to take a few pictures like the tourist you are, of all the flashing lights and the man wearing a Furby costume, and walking slowly enough to annoy all the natives who just want to get to their jobs. Whatever the case, try not to get caught out too late. You never know what kind of people come out in the twilight hours, and this is the kind of place that attracts all sorts.

locations of note: movie theater (we are not picking what movies are showing, so go nuts), clothing stores, groceries, pharmacy, bank (for your currency exchange needs), various restaurants of different cuisines, music stores, Wintenda store, N&N store, there are so many

    2. CONCERT HALL - All the biggest shows of the season happen at the concert hall, the place to be if you're into music. The marquee above the entrance cheerfully announce the biggest upcoming acts such as Teenage Pressure, Desolate Dudes, and Android of the Radio. Posters of past acts line the lobby walls by the box office where you can get yourself a ticket. Inside, the stage commands attention, with the staff buzzing to and fro as they prep for a new show. Lights turn on and off and change color, microphones shriek with feedback, and musicians come and go to test instruments and stage positioning for the best possible performance. Wandering offstage will reward you with a door to the backstage area, except... it's locked. Should a staff member notice you, they'll come to shoo you away, claiming that area is reserved for the performers and their own staff, and visitors may only enter if they have a VIP pass. Tell the mods if you keep trying to sneak into the backstage area.

    3. TERMINAL - In terms of how to get around, public transit is the way to go in the big city. As the biggest transit hub of the city, all forms of public transit from buses to trains to taxis can be found here. Though it's always crowded, it somehow still manages to get worse at rush hour, but the good thing is that you can track how long you'll have to wait for your bus or train to get here on the screens lining the walls. The bad thing is that somehow the vehicle you need is never on time, and they'll never mention the cause of the delay. At least there's some free entertainment down here, with a new musician playing every day. Alternatively, you could always call for a taxi or even a Lift, as long as you're willing to shell out the cash.

    4. CHURCH OF THE FALLEN WOERM - The most common church you'll find here in Kings, everyone comes here to offer a prayer now and then. Depictions of angels feature right alongside the exalted woerm itself - though whether it, too, has wings is a hot topic of debate. All are welcome here regardless of religious affiliation, as long as visitors are being respectful. If you try to go and visit the belltower, however, you'll find one of the clergy appears to stop you with a gentle reminder that you don't need to go up to be reverent. Let the mods know if you keep trying to visit the belltower.

The flagship cathedral stands prominent at the edges of the Star Circle with a perfect view of the central fountain. Throw a coin into the water as tribute to the woerm, they'll say, or write a message in one of these glass bottles and set it in the water for the angels to find. They will always come to lend a hand when it's needed the most.

    5. LIBRARY - In need of a more lowkey kind of entertainment? That's what the library is for! Books from all across the worlds can be found here - yes, even your own! Whether there's something specific you're looking for or even if you're just browsing, you should be able to find what you want, provided you don't get lost in the library shelves. And if it's not here, the librarians will be happy to order it for you. Please be mindful if you're checking something out, though; they have many patrons here, and the books are for public consumption. They would hate to have to fine you for trying to expand your knowledge.

    6. APARTMENTS - There is no dedicated housing district here in Kings. Instead, you'll find a building here or there that's been updated for apartment living, with (most) of the modern conveniences you'd want. Sizing and amenities vary, of course - some buildings will feature newer units with freshly renovated rooms and appliances and plenty of windows for all the natural light you crave. Turn the corner, though, and you'll find a building that could only fit studio apartments, where the kitchen consists of a mini-fridge, the bathrooms are communal, and you don't have a single closet. There are options for everything in-between, but somehow there is always someone complaining about the rent. How lucky is it that you don't have to worry about that, huh? Better tap your coin to the door and find out who it is that you're spending your stay with!

    7. HEALTHCARE 🞴 - Yes, we have that here. There are hospitals dotted all over the city, along with smaller doctor's offices, urgent care facilities, and yes - even therapists! - but the name seen most frequently is that of the Novilun Hospital. It seems like they're always busy, always crowded, and the wait times can be truly abysmal. Unless you are at death's door, you will be asked to wait with a level of politeness that varies from nurse to nurse depending on whether they've been running on empty for another twelve hour shift or if they've only just started out today. Better yet - if you can take care of your own wounds, they may gladly give you some supplies and send you on your way. The fewer patients they have to split their attention between, the better.

    8. PARK - For those that grow weary of the concrete jungle, a sliver of green has been carved out from the endless buildings and people to house a park, with a lovely green lawn for you to touch some grass. Great, aged trees grow here and there to provide some shade, while patches of flowers litter the grounds to add some color. It's the perfect place to put down a blanket and have a picnic, but you'll have to make do with the sounds of city still going on around you and natives will warn you not to go out here at night. Still, it's a nice little getaway when you need a bit of nature.

Continue further out from the center of the city, and you'll find that the general state of the city gradually grows worse. The buildings become a more run down, windows broken and sparsely repaired or boarded up. Smaller branches of the church can be found here and there, with far less extravagant furnishings or altars, a small comfort to those who hold onto their faith. The people here do not look upon visitors with friendly eyes, and the sound of sirens is always close by, though you never see any emergency vehicles. Whatever reason you had to come out this far, you get the feeling that maybe you shouldn't linger. Let the mods know if you stick around for longer than a couple of hours.
